I was interviewed for Radio National’s Background Briefing on the back of my Hungry Beast story (above) on e-privacy. In the wake of Facebook’s latest round of “privacy” fuck ups, Radio National’s report is particularly timely.


Everything from Wired declaring that Facebook has “gone rogue” to Google search trending “How do I delete my Facebook account?” is nicely summed up in this Salon article:

Why all the hot potato action for the site that had, until lately, been the biggest thing to happen to the Internet since porn? After all, Facebook isn’t running a charity here. We get to post our vacation photos and random xkcd cartoons for no charge, and in return – well, they had to want something, right? What did we think they’d give their sponsors — besides us?


The New York Times laid out just how complex Facebook’s privacy settings have become in this wonderful/frightening chart. And though the options are indeed bewildering, a new automated tool has been doing the web rounds the last couple of days, and it is great: Reclaim Your Privacy.


For my money, the person writing most beautifully about digital graveyards is Joel Johnson at Gizmodo, particularly this piece, Raiding Eternity.
